Appellate public defenders advocate for clients in the Colorado Court of Appeals and Colorado Supreme Court, appealing felony convictions or other orders in felony cases. Most of appellate advocacy is in writing, so OSPD seeks strong writers who are committed to defending the rights of indigent people who have been convicted of criminal offenses or faced other consequences related to the criminal accusation.
Meghan Morris, OSPD Chief Appellate Deputy, interviews and screens applicants for attorney positions in the Appellate Division, which is located in the State Administrative Office.
Interviews and hiring are done as openings occur.
