303-764-1400 Applying for a Public Defender

Municipal or Federal Charges

The Colorado State Public Defender only represents people accused of crimes in Colorado state courts. We do not represent people who are accused in the municipal or federal courts.

The Aurora Municipal Public Defender and the Denver Municipal Public Defender represent people who cannot afford an attorney in these city courts. In other municipalities, while there is not a public defender’s office, the court will assign you an attorney who accepts court appointments. Make sure you ask for a attorney if you cannot afford one!

If you or a loved one are accused of a federal crime, this can be very serious and you need to seek legal representation. The Office of the Federal Public Defender represents persons accused of federal offenses.
