It can be difficult to re-establish your life after spending time in jail or prison. There are organizations that are dedicated to helping with this reentry process. This is not a comprehensive list, but some potential resources include:
- The Colorado Criminal Justice reform Coalition (CCJRC)
CCJRC publishes the guide to help people prepare for release and successfully reintegrate back into their families and communities. It is the GO GUIDE: Getting on After Getting Out, a Reentry Guide for Colorado, written by the Colorado Criminal Justice Reform Coalition. The GO Guide provides invaluable information after life in DOC, getting out of prison and surviving once released from prison. Designed to provide information to impacted persons and their families, community service providers and criminal justice professional, chapters cover such issues as Planning for releases, Places to find help once released, veterans, Applying for Benefits, Money matters and Women in Prison. The 250 page book can be purchased at the CCJRC website for $10.00. CCJRC is a coalition of people convicted of crime, survivors of crime, and the families and allies of both. They work to eliminate the overuse of the criminal legal system and strengthen public health and safety that are more holistic, effective and just. They are a proud partner with OSPD in legislative reform. - The Second Chance Center (SCC) – Aurora
Established in 2014 by formerly incarcerated men, SCC is a Colorado based nonprofit organization determined to be the state’s premier community re-entry program and a model for the nation. SCC offers case management, mentoring, and vital resources to assist formerly incarcerated individuals in reestablishing their lives and becoming successful members of the community. - Work and Gain Education & Employment Skills (WAGEES) – 21 programs throughout Colorado
WAGEES is a successful community-based program that facilitates reentry for people under the Colorado Department of Corrections supervision (i.e. parole, transition in Community Corrections) or within in one year from their discharge date. WAGEES Community Partners work in partnership with the Colorado Department of Corrections to help coordinate services and provide opportunities and support for successful reentry. Whether already out on parole or getting ready to come back home, WAGEES Community Partners can help. - Servicios de la Raza (Servicios) – Denver
Servicios Adult and Youth Re-entry bi-lingual programs work with clients every step of the way to help them gain access to employment, training, housing resources, mental and behavioral health services and more, to ensure that they have the tools they need for a safe a successful re-integration into society. - The Reentry Initiative (TRI) – Longmont
Based in Boulder County, Colorado, The Reentry Initiative empowers individuals as they transition from incarceration to a fulfilling and meaningful life. Upon release, they provide mental health and substance abuse treatment, classes on self-sufficiency and connect participants with mentors as well as housing, transportation, and employment. TRI is one of two programs in the state working with female inmates and the only one in Boulder County offering comprehensive wraparound services. - The National Reentry Resource Center (NRRC)
NRRC is the nation’s primary source of information and guidance in reentry. The website provides assistance to persons experiencing reentry and programs working with reentry.
